Protect the remaining data
- Stop taking photographs or saving files to the card.
- Do not format the device, even if Windows or a camera recommends it.
- Do not repeatedly bend or reconnect a physically damaged USB stick.
- Keep the original device safe and do not open it.
What affects recovery?
The result depends on the controller, memory chips, file-system damage, physical condition and whether new data has overwritten the missing files. Some cases can be handled logically; damaged devices may need a different recovery route after assessment.
